Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our breeding program, puppies, trained dogs, and training. Targeting search and “People Also Ask” style queries.

Where is Metro K9 located?

Metro K9 is based in Randolph, New Jersey (Morris County). We serve the Tri-State area and offer nationwide placement for puppies and trained dogs.

What breeds do you breed and train?

We specialize exclusively in German Shepherds and Doberman Pinschers. Both breeds are purpose-bred, health-tested, and raised with early socialization and structured training.

How can I get information on current litters?

Use the “Get More Information on Our Litters” form on the homepage, or call or text (201) 230-2285. We’ll send you current litters, availability, and next steps.

What is the Build a Beast program?

Build a Beast is our custom-trained puppy program: you choose your puppy and we train them to your goals, with handler training, supervised group work, and public proofing.

Do you offer protection dog training?

Yes. We offer personal and family protection dog training, from basic on-leash work to advanced off-leash programs. Training is controlled, reliable, and on command.

Do you ship or deliver puppies?

We offer nationwide placement. Transport options can be discussed once you’re approved; many clients drive or fly to pick up. We’ll work with you on the best option.

Are your puppies AKC registered?

Yes. Our German Shepherd and Doberman puppies are AKC-registered. Registration paperwork is provided with your puppy.

What health testing do you do?

We use the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for hip, elbow, and cardiac evaluations on both the sire and dam, plus breed-specific tests: for German Shepherds, OFA hips/elbows, cardiac, and DNA panels; for Dobermans, DCM screening, vWD, thyroid, and OFA. We follow CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) recommended protocols where applicable. Details for each litter are shared when you inquire.

Why do you emphasize temperament and parent selection so much?

Research shows that behavioral traits (fear, aggression, trainability) have a heritable component—so the parents we choose directly affect what a puppy can become. We select every sire and dam for stable temperament, health, and real-world suitability; no amount of training can fix a dog who wasn't bred for nerves and clarity. When you start with the right parents and raise puppies with structure, you get a dog who can truly live and work with you. See our breeding program and standards we follow for more.

How long have you been breeding?

Metro K9 is a family-owned program with over 40 years of experience in breeding and training German Shepherds and Dobermans.
